Qigong and Meditation: Qigong, pronounced “chi gong,” was developed in China thousands of years ago as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It involves using exercises to optimize energy within the body, mind, and spirit, to improve and maintain health and well-being.
Qigong is a mind-body practice that utilizes postures, coordinated breaths, and intention setting. The term “qigong” is made up of two words or concepts. There’s “qi,” which means “vital energy,” and “gong,” which translates to “skill cultivated through steady practice.” TCM’s core theories and their practitioners believe that qi flows through the bodies of all living beings. If this energy becomes stagnant or blocked, health problems may appear.
Through simple postures, deep breathing patterns, and intention setting, qigong is believed to promote a better flow of qi which improves our overall health.
Researchers have studied qigong and found that the ancient mind-body practice offers many mind-body benefits including lower blood pressure, reduced anxiety and depression, relief of chronic pain, strengthening immune system, and improved overall fitness.
In this class expect to:
Strengthen your relationship with mind, body, and energy using qigong, self-massage, and meditation techniques. You will leave with a deeper understanding of what it feels like to listen inward and move through life with greater compassion for yourself and others.
